Country singer Krystal Keith, the daughter of Toby Keith, opened up about her music as a solo artist and her other endeavors.
Her album Whiskey & Lace was released in December of 2013 on Show Dog-Universal Music, which featured the single “Daddy Dance with Me.” “I really wanted a father-daughter dance song that was from a daughter’s perspective. My dad and I have such a special bond and relationship. As a songwriter, I wrote my own song as a gift to him for my wedding. It was never supposed to be out in the public or released on the album, but my dad insisted and it went on the album,” she said.
The songstress noted that is probably the most sentimental song that she has ever written. “It has the most sentimental spot in my heart. It has gravitated to a lot of people and it is pretty amazing that it has had such a broad reach. It was definitely a surprise hit,” she said.

Whiskey & Lace features yet another single “Get Your Redneck On,” which was her last addition to the album. “We wrote a redneck song from a chick, and I described how my redneck lifestyle isn’t always crazy. My redneck life was very mellow, especially since we hung out by the river, we listened to music and played songs on a tailgate and we sat around a campfire. I really wanted to portray that lazy river lifestyle and we wanted it on our album. It is really fun to sing it live since the people get to sing it back to you and it’s just a really special song,” she said.
Krystal is a part of her father’s “Shut Up and Hold On” headlining summer tour, along with country artist Colt Ford.
Aside from her music, she revealed that she has a couple of careers going on, which include running her own food blog and a column on GAC’s website entitled “Krystal Keith in the Kitchen,” where she provides a recipe for them each week. “So far everything that I have wanted and more has happened, so every time I set a goal, I exceed it,” she said. “As long as I can perform and sing and put out music and fans are receptive, that’s the most that I can ask for. Anything outside of that is completely gratuitous.
One of her proudest moments was singing “Mockingbird” with Toby on the Country Music Association (CMA) awards. “That was really cool. I was young and dumb,” she said with a sweet laugh. “My CMA award performance was only the second time that we had played it live. My dad looked over next to me and told me that if I forgot my words, I should just look over to him and he would have my back. That was a really special moment since he realized that I was not shy at all. Also, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw were in the front row, and my mind was to kick it up a notch, since Faith was in my audience.”
“Mockingbird” was a hit single on country radio, reaching the Top 30, peaking at No. 27. “I didn’t even know that they played it on the radio and that it had charted. I just knew that we did it on the CMA awards and that it was on the album. I had found out the stats about it a year later. That was my dad’s way of keeping me normal. We were really excited about that,” she said.
